Well ladies and gentlemen, I hate to say it but today I am rather bored. As it is a Sunday there is no homeschooling to fill up my day and push me to the limit thankfully. My children and I are enjoying time away from each other in different parts of our home, I am currently sat at my dining table while they are both upstairs playing together. I must say it is rather pleasant to hear them playing rather than listening to the fighting that I have grown accustomed to.
My husband was home for a whole day before shooting off this morning leaving us, once again, to our own devices. I had better make the most of the house being in order because next week a new project is due to commence. If you follow this blog on social media you may have seen a recent post showing a big hole in the floor of our kitchen. This has been repaired temporarily however, it has caused us to fast track our plans to replace kitchen cabinets and, apparently, we need to replace the floorboards as well.
Fingers crossed it will all go smoothly. I think it is going to be a learning experience and I have no doubt that the dining room/school room of the house is going to be temporarily repurposed as a tea making/cooking/storage area. At least we have a camping stove that we can utilise if we need to. Fajita kits and one pot meals for us coming up.
The aim is to have a functioning kitchen within two weeks but it is likely that it is going to take a few months before it is finished completely. We have quite a few areas in the house that would benefit from a freshen up however, lets complete one area before starting on another. I think the next room is going to be our daughters room.
We woke to a small dusting of snow this morning but by midday it melted away with the rains that followed. Spring is on the way though which is always exciting. In other news I finally managed to muster up enough energy last night to have a much needed shower. Who knows, maybe this evening I will be able to paint my nails and really spoil myself.
To try and cheer myself up recently I have been listening to Disney music. There is nothing quite like singing along to some classics to lift your spirits even if your voice sounds like a chorus of cats. My children are often subjected to my beautiful voice singing away whilst washing the dishes or some other chore. They generally turn the TV up as much as they can to drown me out. It becomes a fun game of who can make the most noise. Of course, I always win because I can always be louder than the TV if needs be. A good old fashioned karaoke and dance session at home always brings a smile to my face.
There are a few things that are playing on my mind at the moment which will take some time to process. Watch this space, I will more than likely address these issues in future posts.
I am trying really hard to avoid the daily news, sorry BBC but we aren’t being told anything new and it is apparent that there is no end in sight. So rather than watch or listen to the news and take the risk of throwing something at a much valued member of the family (the TV/babysitter) it is best to ignore and carry on as we have been. I look at the headlines but that’s all. I am not reading any articles or listening to any briefings which are all the same “um…ah…um…um…oh we don’t know”. I know they are trying to bolster the public spirit and keep everyone informed but after nearly 12 months, for me, the briefings hold as much value as puppy’s faeces.
Instead I have entertained myself during the long winter evenings of the past week watching Netflix. In particular, Bridgerton. Have you seen it? It was rather enjoyable and a welcome distraction from the monotony of each day however, as the season progressed, I discovered that if I had lived during the regency era as a Lady, I would have been left on the shelf for spinsterhood due to my immaturity, even though I am now a lady in my thirties.
I think that if a programme is good it allows you to switch off from your day to day life and imagine how you may react in the characters position. So I began laughing at myself at the end of episode 5 because if I had been in Daphne’s shoes faced with a shirtless Duke, who obviously takes care of himself, I would have run my hands up and down his torso whilst imitating the noise of a percussion instrument. At which point, I am sure any feelings of burning he may have been harbouring would have ceased and he would have walked out of the room in disgust, thus leaving my virtue in tact.
Unfortunately my maturity level has not yet reached the stage that I can observe nudity on a screen without shouting “boobies”, laughing or cringing depending on the scenario being depicted. Many “adult” scenes have been marred by my cackle or a grimace much to the annoyance of those around me.
Hey ho, it was entertaining and a much needed distraction. I am now contemplating buying the books as I am intrigued about any differences there may be between them and I want to know more about the other characters stories.
If I know something has been adapted from a book I tend to watch the show/film first before reading the book. The rage I experienced when I watched My Sisters Keeper for the first time was a memorable experience that I do not wish to repeat therefore, I figured this is the better order for me to do it. That way I am not aware of any liberties that may have been taken during the adaptation process which means I can enjoy them as separate entities, rather than expecting them to follow the text and being irritated when they don’t.
Generally speaking life is pretty dull at the moment, excluding the occasional breakdown that comes from being stuck in a house with your spawn, with no end in sight. This evening I will be gearing up for another week of homeschool fun and chasing my tail. Hopefully I can follow this with enjoying some peace and quiet with a wax melt burning and treat myself to some much deserved pampering.
